Today’s Dilbert, via Language Log:
Had this existed two weeks ago, I could have just used it in lieu of this post.
(I did get out this weekend, for what it’s worth, and wound up with a front-row seat for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra–literally five feet from the first and second violinists, and close enough to hear conductor Jaap von Zweden’s powerful, frequent, and slightly worrisome grunts. As a bonus, because we, along with most everyone there, got the tickets through my husband’s employer, nearly 100% of the people with whom I interacted before and after said performance were engineers. In the event that you, dear reader, ever become a bit more reclusive than you’d planned and as a result end up blog-howling and mildly nervous about your rusting ability to navigate the social waters, I heartily recommend this course of action, as that pond can be migh-ty small…)
(Disclaimer: Engineers are fine people, and some of them are quite normal.)
